Brevard County’s Boating and Waterways Program works to align the needs and resources of the

County’s extensive waterways.  The Program ensures the safety and enjoyment of the general public

and is working to maintain a balance between the environmental, recreational, and commercial needs  of the region, now and into the future.

Derelict Vessels

Brevard County has applied for funding from the Florida Inland Navigation District to assist in the removal of 10 of the approximately 30 derelict vessels currently abandoned within the Indian River Lagoon and Banana River.

If you suspect a specific vessel is abandoned or derelict please contact FWC dispatch, 1-888-404-3922 or Brevard County Sheriff's Marine Unit, 633-7130 or via email to specialops@bcso.us or the Natural Resources Management Office, (321) 633-2016.

Comprehensive Maritime Management Master Plan (CM3P)

The Natural Resource Management Office and the University of Florida Brevard County Extension Service have
initiated and are jointly sponsoring the development of the Brevard County Comprehensive Maritime Management Master Plan (CM3P).  In development of the plan, a series of public meetings are to be held to address and balance environmental, recreational, and economic issues affecting the future of Brevard County’s waterways.  Our kickoff meeting was a success with over 100 individuals present, representing a wide variety of interests such as eco-tourism, ecosystem management, recreational boaters, marinas, law enforcement, local municipalities, water-dependent facilities, marine industries, conservation districts and interested citizens.  Additional public meetings to continue the development  of the CM3P are currently being scheduled.  For information on upcoming CM3P public meetings contact Matt Culver at the Brevard County Natural Resources Management Office, 321-633-2016 and click here to see the CM3P outline.  Click here for CM3P Working Group updates.

The 3rd Annual Space Coast Waterfest was a huge success with 12 events held during May 2011 throughout Brevard County. Click here to view the 2011 Calendar of Events and 2012 schedule updates.  For information on the upcoming 4th Annual Space Coast Waterfest, please contact the Boating & Waterways Program.
